APPLIQUÉ

Note Sew the medium colour 4½” x 6” strip and 4½” square together at short ends before applying star appliqués as the shapes overlap the joined seams.

1. Trace all the shapes for Block 7 and Block 8 to the paper side of fusible web. Draw each element separately with adequate spacing. 2. Cut out beyond the line and fuse to the wrong side of chosen fabric. 3. Cut out on the line; this ensures the adhesive applies to the edge of the patches. Follow fusible web manufacturer’s instructions for best results. 4. Layout shape on the appropriate background. When happy with layout, fuse in place.

PIECING

Create partial triangle units for the two four- prong squares in Block 7 and Block 8. 1. Sew a 2½” x 7” dark strip to the side of 2½” x 7” light strip. 2. Sew another 2½” x 7” dark strip to the opposite side of the light strip. Diagram 1
