SAM WILLAN Flight Centre WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FAM? I’d

not visited Atlantic Canada before and knew very little about it. But after our trip I know it's a region that deserves a lot more attention and visitors! We saw and experienced so much… the area is packed with things to do.

HIGHLIGHTS? Definitely number one was clam digging off the back of a trawler in Georgetown, PEI, which was fantastic. We donned wet suits, snorkels and masks (all provided) and were out for about five hours. We caught clams and a couple of crabs and then tried our hand at mackerel fishing. We cooked and ate our catch on the boat. The weather that day was about 26C. Another highlight was the region's

great food culture – I had the most fantastic seafood. The variety and quality of fish, lobster, clams, etc, in Atlantic Canada is far superior to what we get in the UK. We were fortunate to be there during the Fall Flavours Festival on PEI, one of the region’s big annual food events. It featured the famous Australian master chef, Curtis Stone. We also enjoyed some great music, with Celtic and Irish influences. The bands we saw really got the place hopping.

WHICH CLIENTS? People travelling for a second bite of Canada, that have done the main destinations and want to see a part of country that still feels a little undiscovered. The locals still easily outnumber visitors.

I was attracted by the combination of countryside and coast on offer in Atlantic Canada. It really appealed to me as somewhere quite different.

ATLANTIC CANADA

 Top Tips... • Short flight from UK - 6 hrs • Perfect for self-drive tours • Great seafood • Charming villages & scenery • Live music and local festivals

HIGHLIGHTS? The whole region was absolutely stunning! The countryside was beautiful, the people were lovely and we had great food everywhere. The clams and crabs were fabulous! A favourite memory is our visit to

Jost Vineyards in Nova Scotia, for a lovely wine-tasting tour, and our lunch at the Train Station Inn, Tatamagouche. Everyone told me how good the food

would be but I never imagined it would be that wonderful – so fresh and the biggest, tastiest mussels I’ve ever eaten! Everywhere we ate, whether it was a simple coffee shop or a downtown restaurant in Halifax, we had freshly cooked food at very reasonable prices. The lobster is particularly good.

"The Canada Specialist Programme is such a useful tool. Canada is a vast country and you have to know the basics. I refreshed my CSP training before this trip"

WHICH CLIENTS? Atlantic Canada is perfect for those who have done the usual Rockies, BC and Toronto/Niagara tourist trails. It’s ideal for those who like to explore under their own steam – and there is plenty to discover. Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island

are perfect for self-drive itineraries and I will sell both to mature couples who are looking for a relaxed self-drive holiday and to enjoy lovely coastal and countryside scenery. Also, families with older children (12-15yrs perhaps) would find plenty to do and see.
