CTC SUPER FAM 2011 Special Report

CANADA CALLS T

Agents on tour

The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) invited 40 agents and tour operator reservation staff to join its fi rst Super Fam since 2003. Steve Hartridge joined in the fun

he travelling party, all qualified Canada Specialists, flew courtesy of Air Canada (www.

aircanada.com/agents) and split into seven groups to experience the different regions of Atlantic Canada, Yukon, Manitoba, British Columbia, Alberta, Québec and Ontario. After enjoying highlights that included a

cycle tour of the nation’s capital, Ottawa, horseback riding in the Yukon wilderness, digging for clams in Prince Edward Island and rafting on the Athabasca river in Alberta, the attendees met up in Toronto for a weekend of sightseeing and workshop presentations. A day touring Ontario’s regional highlights took in Niagara Falls (via The Maid of the Mist and a helicopter flip), wine-tasting at Jackson Triggs Niagara Estate Winery, a visit to the chocolate- box village of Niagara-on-the-Lake and dinner at Toronto’s CN Tower. The fam’s final day saw the agents competing for prizes in a hotly- contested workshop session where each group gave a 10-minute presentation and showed off the best photos taken on their respective trips. With the prizes presented (see page

23) the Super Fam ended with an amphibian ‘duck’ tour of Toronto, Canada’s largest city. Said Rupert Peters, regional managing

director, core markets for CTC: “The Super Fam is an integral part of our trade activities this year. Our new online training programme (www. canadaspecialist.co.uk) is an easy way for agents to discover Canada’s secrets. "But nothing beats first-hand

experience of our destination and this partnership with Air Canada and the

provinces not only rewards those who complete the Canada Specialist Agents training it also provides them with more confidence and enthusiasm to sell Canada to their clients.” The agents were certainly impressed:

Said Bridget Knowles, of Martin’s World Travel, who visited Alberta: “The

entire fam was a wonderful experience, with everything so expertly organised. I was totally bowled over and impressed with Air Canada, Canada itself and the lovely people we met during our visit. "I’ll always keep the memories and

will sell the country with total and absolute confidence!”
