Over the last few years, the influx of counterfeit electronic
components has had an increasingly costly impact across the electronics industry. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) estimates the cost of counterfeit goods in the global supply chain is almost $250 billion annually.
As amember of the Electronic Components Industry Association
(ECIA), a leading non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the expanding needs and interests of the authorized electronics supply chain,Mouser Electronics is dedicated to providing factory- warranted, first-quality, genuine components, adhering to the highest standards in customer service.
Mouser's emphasis on the importance of quality components
used in new technologies is well founded. Designs utilizing counterfeit parts, whether intentionally or not, can often encounter costly delays, numerous redesigns, production shutdowns, and even product failure, ultimately costing customers a crucial time-to- market advantage. By purchasing components froman authorized distributor, design engineers can avoidmassive production problems down the line and be confident that they won't spend needless time troubleshooting sound designs.
In light of the growing problemof counterfeit electronic
components,Mouser Electronics has partnered with ECIA to spearhead the development and launch of a new electronic components inventory search website,
www.ECIAauthorized.com, providing engineers and purchasing professionals the fastest and most complete authorized electronics inventory search available.
The site provides onlymanufacturer authorized inventory and results are based on searchmatch and availability. Engineers and

buyers can search for electronic components using a full or partial manufacturer's part number to find products carried in stock by 31 ECIA authorized distributors, includingMouser.
Mouser CEO, Glenn Smith served as the project chairman,
working with a teamof ECIAmembers that included professionals fromall of the industry's top component distributors. Buyers are using the site for complete bill-of-material (BOM) searches and Mouser is already receiving several hundred referrals daily.
"Our membership with ECIA is a testament to our commitment
to providing our customers genuine components," said Kevin Hess,Mouser Electronics' vice president of technical marketing. "This strategic alignment is just another wayMouser is helping shape this dynamic industry and bring design engineers what they want: the most advanced, quality components to get designs to market faster."
In conjunction with their ECIAmembership,Mouser received the
AS9120A certification, building on the company's ISO9001 standard already in place. AS9120A is a qualitymanagement certification typically reserved for aerospace and DOD distributors. This high standard addresses chain of custody, traceability, control and availability of records.
As an AS9120A distributor,Mouser is bringing a heightened level
of quality control outside the aerospace and DOD industry to the prototype development stage. Being able to trace semiconductors and electronic components providesMouser with several key advantages: improved data accuracy, reduced cycle time to correct service-related problems, an enhanced ability to identify and remove rogue parts, plus a reduced risk of counterfeit parts entering the design chain.
