ECIA Executive Conference Preview Features only genuIne parts Inventory search sIte

The newdistributor inventory searchwebsite developed by the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA) is rapidly gaining popularity among buyers, specifiers and authorized distributors. The association launched the site,

www.ECIAauthorized.com, inMay. Today 31 authorized distributors offer their inventories through the site. Usage by purchasing professionals and engineers is growing daily. "We are already getting several

hundred referrals per day," said Hayne Shumate, ofMouser Electronics, one of the participating distributors. According to ECIA president Robin

Gray, the site is an important weapon in the industry's fight against counterfeit parts. "We’re providing OEMs and CEMs with a secure and unbiased location to find authorized products," said Gray. "This site only lists inventory that is genuine and backed by the manufacturer’s warranty." The 31 distributors nowrepresented on

the site includemany of the largest national and international full-line distributors plus regional firms and some withmore specialized product lines. All are ECIAmembers and are authorized channel partnerswith theirmanufacturers. Arrow, Newark/element14,Mouser,

TTI, Allied, Sager, Future, Digi-Key and Avnet are among thewell-known large companieswhose free-to-sell inventory is searchable onwww.ECIAauthorized.com. All search results are displayed at random fromexactmatches to the search criteria. Withmillions of components from31

complete authorized distributor inventories searchable at once, buyers can fill an entire bill ofmaterials, or locate one hard-to-find part at the newECIA website, allwith full product support and warranty coverage. While some buyersmay be tempted to

buy fromindependent dealers or brokers to get a better "deal", the ECIA recommends against that practice. "Buyers should look at the total cost

and the total risk of buying from unauthorized sources," said Gray. "If a counterfeit part causes a line shutdown or a piece of electronics equipment to break down, it can be very expensive."

September 2011 | 29 "We’re confident that the use of our search site by both distributors

and their customerswill continue to grow, making it amajor asset and resource for the electronics industry," Gray said.
