The President’s Report
Tradeshow moves to Hamburg
STEPHEN WHITE ITCA president
I am sure that by now you have heard that Reed Exhibitions has acquired the ITCA European tradeshow and that with immediate effect, the ITCA event will be renamed World Travel Catering Expo and take place in Hamburg from March 27–29 March 2012 alongside Reed Exhibitions’ highly successful Aircraft Interiors Expo, that already attracts senior buyers from over 200 of the world’s major airlines. The re-branded event World Travel Catering
Expo will address the needs of food, beverage and amenity buyers across the airline, rail and leisure sea travel operators. We have been in talks with Reed Exhibitions for
a number of years and we now feel that the time is right for the show to be developed and enhanced by the world’s largest exhibition organiser for the benefit of our members and the exhibition’s visitors and exhibitors. For many years now our members have been telling us that they wanted fewer rather than more events. Our time is more precious than ever and for people to travel the world to visit these events is becoming more and more difficult, time consuming and costly. We held a two-day strategic workshop a few months ago and we were very lucky to have representatives from major companies from all over the world giving of their time. This just showed us that there is a desire for the association to develop in the right way and one of the main driving issues to emerge from this session was that the ITCA show and Aircraft Interiors Expo were overlapping more and more. Whilst a number of participants did visit both events it was felt that a whole week could be saved in their busy schedules by attending them in a single location. We believe that having Reed Exhibitions acquire the exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for
the industry. Reed Exhibitions are specialists in running tradeshows and exhibitions all over the world, currently organising over 460 events in 36 countries and we believe their professionalism and experience in the travel and food industry will create an unrivalled exhibition for everyone. We will have a presence at the event so members
can meet us in person and we can display some of the benefits of being an ITCA member. ITCA will lend its full support to World Travel Catering Expo bringing Food and Beverages to

Hamburg. We are, after all, an association that was born out of the F&B side of airline life and many of the buyers in our industry sector are now responsible for buying items from blankets and headsets to wine, soft drinks and food, all under the onboard service banner. Reed Exhibitions’ Divisional managing director,
Justin Tadman said: “Acquiring the ITCA event is strategically important and enables us to provide the travel catering industry with a quality event

dedicated to their sector. We are looking forward to working with ITCA exhibitors and visitors at our World Travel Catering Expo in Hamburg on March 27–29 2012” ITCA, as an association, will focus on other areas
into which we can channel our endeavours for the benefit of our members and I hope to be able to announce some new initiatives on this front very soon. In fact if anyone reading this article would like to make any suggestions please feel free to contact me through the contact form on the ITCA website at
www.itcanet.com Our Dubai event will continue as it has become
a truly regional event in a region that continues to show such tremendous growth that demand for it to continue is still high. We will also be continuing with some of our
other familiar offerings including the Mercurys, Hygiene courses and, of course, our partnership with OnBoard Hospitality magazine. I look forward to seeing you all in Hamburg next year at the World Travel Catering Expo.
