SIZZLA THE GUESTLIST NETWORK | DECEMBER 2010
Sizzla has a hot new track out with right now with Peter Jackon- ‘Miss Right’ we caught up with one of the kings of reggae to see whats crackin’.
Oshi
How you doing Sizzla? Jah rastafari one love from Ja- maica and Africa and the world.
I know you’re one of the most prolific reggae artists, you’ve done about 60 albums, a very credible amount of music, and you’ve been crowned the king of reggae. How does that feel in 2010?
Well, Jah love for so long and who am I to determine the way forward, if Jah determine I’m going that way I’m going that way. People say Sizzla that’s your blessing, that’s my blessing, I’m gonna keep it. I’m going to keep it that way and keep working on it and making it greater.
Are you still doing as much music as ever?
As ever! I just completed two albums with caveman. They say I’m the king of reggae... I got to show them man, I got to show them. I record at least 10 songs a day...ha ha.
You like to go out and keep your finger on the pulse. Rastafari! I just go to the clubs and listen to new beats. Sizzla is not the only person in the music industry, Sizzla musicians aren’t the only ones who are making beats. Sometimes I’m there and
someone has heard a new beat and they come to me and say, ‘Sizzla, I heard this beat on the radio, I would like you to put something nice on this beat’. Sometimes a fan that you work for comes up with an idea. You work for the fans to give unity. Music is love, music is unity, unity is strength.
Nothing bothers me, nothing bothers you. Is that still true? Honestly, it’s like your going through the universe sailing through the galaxy and every rhythm is like a spaceship. Its like wow, a new spaceship for me to soar to new heights.. and take me through the galaxy. That’s what I’m saying for my music, its taking me to a different level, different aspect...higher than before. I take this music serious man... When I see what it does to the people in the world, the happiness it brings. I need to increase it and put all my energy and effort and my love and my substance in the music. Any rhythm. Those rappers, if they’re gonna download any of their riddim tracks for me, I will put something on it.
Every rhythm is a new jour- ney.
I don’t care no more. I don’t care if its Reggae, One Drop, Hip Hop,
anything on this side, I’m going to kill it with my lyrics. I’ve learned over the years in music that people love to hear new lyrics and rhythms. Just to hear my lyr- ics on a hip hop track people are going, ‘ah it sounded good’ that’s enough. I search for new ideas to spread to love and make money. With music I can tour with a new album, if I’m struggling I can tour an album.. make a money. Music to me is like oxygen.
What are your biggest re- wards in life?
The biggest reward in life is that I’m born from my mummy coming from my daddy. And that I have been recognised by the whole of the world. Praising the true un-living gods of Rustafari. And getting the love from the people... and I’m
healthy..and I’m just like that. and I’m gonna keep it like that, cos I can help other people when I’m like that.
You have travelled the greatest places in the world.. where is the best place for you to perform at? That would be Africa. Lot of shows in the world off the hook, crazy, prolific, magnificent awe- some damn,,but when i go to Africa Man, its a total different thing.(laughs). Energy and love
of all the people in the world you can find in Africa at one show!!. Just to know that slavery has hap- pened and so many artists before Sizzla sing so many
songs..and highlight the world.. and free the people of the world and many died and passed away and when they see Sizzla come to Africa, they go crazy.
Have you got any words for your fans over here in London?
God bless, no one curse.. continue to be good. and do good Respect yourself, be good to yourself Respect your family, Respect your elders, respect those around you around you, your brothers and sisters. Show love to all other nations. It doesn’t matter colour class nor creed, push up whats good take down whats bad. God is his Majesty Highly Selasie Never forget to pray because Sizzla love you. You got a lot more Sizzla coming your way
Thank you for your time...I wish you all the best. My pleasure.
