HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART I
Turrah Hogwards, the trio go it alone! Rowling strings out the penultimate but the end is nigh.... Deeper, Darker and better than ever!
Kicking off under growing clouds of uncertainty and coming to a close with even greater questions looming ominously over our brave trio and dwindling band of supporters, “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part I” nevertheless manages to pull viewers in right from the start and hold them rapt until they end… even in spite of our young hero feeling the need to throw some gnarly shapes mid-way through the proceedings.
While the lavish production values and
attention to detail in the creation of a con- vincing wizarding world have never been called into question (and only continue to grow more impressive with each passing installment), it’s the once troublesome woodenness of the franchise’s three leads that has slowly given way to real performances and can finally give all the wondrous bells ‘n’ whistles a sturdy emo- tional underpinning.
Director David Yates has also clearly become more comfortable captaining this
bulky cinematic cruise liner, striking an easy balance between the ever-present, ever-at-odds light and dark elements of the stories while finding a steady rhythm in the film’s plotting. Yates knows the audience is hungry for the main course, but he’s not about to spoil our appetite on poorly prepared starters and you’ll defi- nitely leave the cinema eager for more.
