Music Festival Miami 2011
March 2011 will mark the first year in WMC’s history that the Winter Music Conference and The Ultra Music Festival will not ride hand in hand together with UMF held from the 25th to the 27th and WMC on the 8th to the 12th. Two of Miamis biggest parties will split this year due to problems with venue availability for the Ultra Music Festival. In the statement WMC put out in response to the news, they have said, “The date selection is based exclusively on venue availability. We present one of the most extensive programs of the year during peak
season in Miami Beach. We are constantly developing our program in order to provide the best possible venues and hotels at the best pos- sible terms for the artists, delegates and program participants.” The spilt between dates has occurred because Miami beach hosts an annual Calle Ocho street fair which is a free event held in the second week of March which attracts over a million people to Downtown Miami. With that in mind, the Miami police do not have the expertise to control both Calle Ocho and UMF at the same time.
Other reasons were displayed to highlight the bad timing of this years event but it ultimately came down to the poor judgement of WMC to place their dates where UMF will fall. Love seems not to be lost between the two festivals as they plan to con- tinue their 25 year tradition next year by coordinating the dates together so the same thing won’t happen again. However we feel that this may be a opportunity for more random parties and Miami madness, so all is not bad!!TGN say bring on Miami 2011!!!
