contouring techniques
Kerri adds: “Using an airbrush gun or pen that is smaller and imparts a finermist, you can pick out and tan ‘abs’ or othermuscles and contours, which will define and create amore shapely look that is extremely slimming.”
James Harknett, spray tanman to the stars at BOBSOHO, agrees that using a good technique is essential for creating a slimming effect:
“If you can’t tone it, you can tan it!” he says. “Using a gentle sweepingmotion across the body, working fromthe edge of the body inwards, it is possible to create a real trimming effect, particularly on the abdominal
area. Also, by focusing on the inner thighs and buttocks it is possible to really slimdown the look of these areas. Contouring gives a beautiful finish and clients are always so thrilled with results.”
Some therapists prefer to wait a day before adding the contour layer of the tan, this is known as ‘Double Dipping’. It allows the base layer of tan to fully develop, before the 3D tan effect is applied.

For contouring you will need to use equipment that allows you to give a very fine and precisemist to pick up the detail of themuscles.
“Ideally an airbrush is better for defining detail as it is finer and can producemore detail,” saysAnnette. “This can also be achieved using the normal HVLP gun, however lower levels of solution should be used to lightly layer the desired areas.”
