On December 8, 2010, James R. Hunton, proud resident of the District of Columbia for over 50 years passed away at his home on Capitol Hill. Born in Mansfield, Ark. to Eppa and Bernice Barkley Hunton, Jim spent his teenage and college years in Albuquerque,NM. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1959 having been inducted into the Kappa Sigma Fraternity,Delta Zeta Chapter in 1957. From 1959 to 1962 he was acommissioned officer in the US Navy.Jim was afreelance court reporter in the District for over 25
years.Among his numerous reporting assignments were Senate and House Com- mittee hearings and service as an official reporter for Vice President Nelson A. Rock-
efeller.After retiring in 1995, Jim pursued his love of travel, visiting over 50 countries. He had returned from Israel and Jordan on October 30, 2010. He also was an avid genealogist of the Hunton family and made many friends over the internet as asource and collector of the family history.Jim is survived by his beloved partner of over 36 years,Dan Koojoolian, as well as many cousins in Arkansas and New Mexico,and dear friends.

Dottie was part of the Western High School class of 1931. She married the late Oliver WJackson in 1937 after meeting him at Pepco,where they both worked for many

Her paintings of people were shown for many years in galleries in Hawaii and in Northern Virginia.

She attended McKinley Tech and was married to Jerry Nolan just after World WarII. Betty moved to Maryland in the early 50's and to Arizona in the last 50's.While in Arizona, Jerry and Betty became interest- ed in the history of the American Indian and the American West. In the early 60's, they moved back to Silver Spring, MD. It was during this time that she and her husband founded Apache Appliance, which began as asmall business out of their
home.Betty and Jerry shared a lifetime of adventures while skiing and traveling America. There was no moun- tain that was too difficult for her to ski and no obstacle should wouldn't try to

Died September 6, 2010 of complications from congestive heart failure in McLean,
VA.Born on March 13, 1917 in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he served six months in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1934 at the age,of17.
Mr.Rucchio served on U.S.S. Ashville on duty in the South China Patrol in 1936. He also participated in the defense of the international settlement in Shanghai China during the Sino-Japanese hostilities. From 1937-1938
Mr.Rucchio,a talented musician, was with the famous 3rd Marine Division and participated in WWII in Guam and Okinawa. He then was commissioned as 2nd Lt. during the Korean Warand served as the supply officer at Camp LeJeune,NC. until retirement in 1956.
During his second career,Mr. Rucchio joined the U.S. Capitol Police in 1960 and retired in 1985 with the rank of Inspector. After retirement he took up golf and was an avid traveler and gourmet cook.
Survivors include two daughters,Rose- mary Rucchio of Olney,MDand Felicita Minionis of Annandale,VA; as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchil- dren.

Larry Eugene Shoemaker was born on Feb- ruary 28, 1955 in Bethesda, Maryland. He lived nearly his entire life in theWashington, D.C. area. He began his career in the security field in the mid 1970’sand suc- cessfully managed an office for CES Securi- ty for the last 12 years.
Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to spend time in the woods or on the water with his family and friends. He also enjoyed other outdoor activi- ties/sports,especially snow skiing and golf.
Larry is survived by his wife of 32 years Linda, his daughter Christine,her fiancé Brett, his son Gene and his daughter in law Melissa. He is also survived by siblings Bill, Paula, Lee and Vince,aswell as numerous nieces and nephews.

An advocate of greater understanding of the Middle East, where she lived and traveled for many years,died November 28, 2010 at the age of 89 in San Francisco, CA.
Mrs.Thacher was born in San Francisco in 1921 and graduated from Stanford Univer- sity in 1944. She served in the Red Cross as apsychiatric social worker in military hospitals from 1944 –1947. She married Nicholas G. Thacher,a U.S. Foreign Service Officer,in1947. Together they lived in Karachi, Calcutta, Baghdad, Jidda, Tehran and Washington, D.C. Her husband retired as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia in 1973.
Mrs.Thacher was an avid student of each of the countries where she lived. Her bibliography of English translations enti- tled: An Annotated Partial Bibliographyof Contemporary Middle Eastern and North African Poetry,Prose, Drama and Folktales was published in 1991. She was also a founding member of awriting group of San Francisco women that published two books,including:TheSubject of Our Lives. She served on the boards of the Near East Foundation, Middle East Institute,The International Hospitality Center,and The Friends of the San Francisco Public Library. She is survived by three children and their spouses,Scott Thacher and Guliz Kurouglu, San Diego,CA, Edith Thacher and Charles Routt, Sacramento,CAand Adam Thacher and Janice Thacher,Pied- mont, CA; and six grandchildren.
