Anyone that has ever been part of a large project knows that in order for things to turn out the way they are planned teamwork is essential. That is exactly how the crew at Kojis and Sons Signs of Bunkie, Louisiana manages to build magnificent icons that tell the world exactly what the customer wants it to know. The giant guitar, a replica of the 50th anniversary signature guitar from Peavey Guitars, that towers outside the Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi, Louisiana, is the perfect example of a project that requires many people working in many different capacities. It stands 112 feet tall, has over 5,000 feet of neon and is powered by over one hundred 12,000 volt transformers. Parts of the column are sixty inches in diameter and over one and one quarter inch think steel was used. The foundation starts 90 feet under ground with twelve concrete piles. The guitar is built with a steel frame and wrapped with eighth inch thick aluminum and as far as we know is the world’s largest guitar. It was built in eight ten foot tall slices, each weighing approximately 6,000 pounds. The finish was accomplished with non oth- er than the airbrush! Now that takes teamwork!
