I’m going to add a ghost grid effect to our design now, again using eight-inch fine line tape. I have gone thru and masked my yellow graphics off using two-inch masking tape. You might ask why I’m doing this part last and the answer would be as I said before its very hard, if not impossible in most case’s to paint over existing graphics and not have them show thru the top graphic. Rather than risk having these bleed thru my yellow graphics the grid is done last. Parts of the grids you see here going over the yellow graphic’s will of course not show up as they will appear to be underneath the yellow graphic’s once we are done.
My goal is to render these grids so they are not shout out loud noticeable, ghost like as I don’t want the design to look crowded or busy. To accomplish this I use Coblat Blue Kandy Koncen- trate applying it right over the fine line tape letting it drift into each individual grid. The over spray should create just enough definition in the grids to achieve the look I’m after.
With all the masking removed and with the helmet out in the sunlight here’s what my design looks like before being clear coated. When laying the grid graphic’s out matching the design from one side of the helmet to the other can easily be accomplished by just ensuring your fine line tape is intersecting the yellow graphics in the same spot on each side of the helmet. All I have left to do is add his name on the sides and kart logo on the back and it will be ready for clear coat. To paint the name, logo I had them cut out of paint mask at a local sign shop, weeded the letters out positioned it on the helmet and spray thru the areas where the letters where taken out.
