Materials used: One white T-shirt 100% cotton, Colors: Golden Fluid Acrylics, pre- mixed with Golden airbrush Medium 1:1, GAC 900 (Acrylic Polymer which offers a very soft hand and laundering stability when
heat set properly.) 2 sheets of parchment paper (greaseproof paper), 3M remount re- position able adhesive. Masking tape. Air- brushes used: Iwata HP-B, Richpen 113C
1# I begin by making a drawing of Santa on paper in a suitable size for a T shirt design. To transfer this image on to the T-shirt I use parchment paper; I believe most of us have this in our kitchens to wrap around food, etc. I have found that it’s great to use as tracing and transfer paper; also makes a great homemade Fris- ket masking material. I lay a sheet of the parchment paper on top of my drawing and copy the drawing on to this using a lead pen. You can see the orginal design thru the parchment paper so its just a matter of tracing it. With the Santa design transferred on to the parchment paper I flip it over and using a black charcoal pen trace the image once again by following the lines of my previous drawing which shows through the parchment paper. I use some pieces of masking tape to attach the drawing on to the T-shirt securing it in place.
2# With the drawing in place I use my finger to gently smudge over the lines to transfer my drawing onto the shirt. The charcoal doesn’t provide very dark lines, just enough so you can see the lines of the drawing. This method makes your design lines easy to cover with any value of color when painting.
3# I begin with Pyrrole Red with few drops of GAC 900 (I will add a few drops of GAC 900 in all my colors during the painting process) and paint Santa’s out- fit, adding just a little Red to his face. I clean my airbrush and continue with Raw Umber filling in the remaining lines of the design.
