I made a stencil out of paper to help me render the label, which I hold in place on the tank with small magnets. Using transpar- ent acrylic black and red sprayed thru my airbrush I rough in the labels. The paint being applied on the paper stencil will de- form it but placing the stencil between two sheets of paper and ironing it with a household iron will easily overcome this. The stencil will be good as new after this is done, just remember to keep the iron moving at all times. The final touch up on the label is done with a small fine art paintbrush.

Now to finish this tank design I mask off the label area so now the entire jeans pattern part of the tank is covered. With the masking removed from the back part of the tank I apply pearl white first followed by candy sunset which should really in- crease the contrast between the jeans pattern and the back of the tank. To add a bit more character to the tank I cut a tribal design mask out and will add this to the back part of the tank. In the tribal design I use transparent gray to add shadow areas and candy apple red in the curve areas. To complete the design I apply a thin coat of transparent pearlized medium over it.

With all the masking removed the sunset candy did as I expected and the contrast between the opaque and candy color gives the jeans pattern a more realistic look. To finish up the fine detail work I use white, black and copper colors to render the rivets. An X acto knife is used to scrape away some of the color to bring the base white color back up to act as threads in the torn area of the jeans pattern.

And here you can see the completed tank after a two part automotive clear coat was applied.
