I do the same job over the back fender which also has been dented. The problem is superficial and very small. I do the same job with mastic to fill the small impact, spray the primer and do the same paint job. Because of the small repair area I decide to clear only over the touch-up job. I spray the two part clear with my 0.3 air- brush. I over reduce the clear mixture with 50% reduc- er so as to get very thin coat of clear without any risk of orange peel! Quickly I clean my airbrush and spray pure reducer over the full clear job! Be careful to spray light coat of reducer on the repair area otherwise there is a risk for the clear to run. On the tank paint job you can be more generous with the reducer over the clear overflowing it around the touch –up! The thinner will dis- solve the clear overspray and will do naturally a perfect invisible join between you touch-up and the tank clear.
Now it’s the more stressing part of the touch –up job! Even it is quiet easy to just clear the touch up with invis- ible seam I decide to clear the entire tank. The colour is perfect over the fender and should be the same on the tank. It’s only after you spray the clear and see the re- sult under the sun that you will know if your paint touch- up is good (same colour, same level of pearls, no halo around the touch-up! If you have controlled your pearl colour test panel and the grey colour of your job, there should be no reason that you can see a difference. After the correct drying time the tank is sanded with 1500 wet grit paper, Trizact 3000 and buff until I get a very shinny surface. For the fender I just sand the entire fender with 3000 wet paper to remove my paint and clear overspray, and then I buff it. The customer should be happy the tank and fender are like a new !!!
