My custom yellow mix to use as an out line is yellow with a couple drops of brown and a good dab of red oxide. I know....we use scientific methods here at Big Daddy Customs. Sorry folks I only mixed up an ounce of the color and didn’t take time to write the exact measurements down. I spray the outline with a bit of white to help my color pop and then apply my yellow. I add some shadows for the 3D “kick backs” on the outline, add a few highlights to complete the 3D look. Lastly I add my drop shadows under the letters to complete the 3 Dimensional il- lusion.
I back mask the flag and lettering spraying a white base piece by piece for the eagle. Doing this allows me to see the basic lines for the eagle’s body to detail in later (freehand). I spray the head and tail with a light gray. I do this so the white feathers will have texture and depth when I spray them in. I then use more white to detail in the tail feathers. The mixture of white and gray gives great relief and depth without being overbearing.
I use the remainder of my custom mixed yellow for the beak and talons. I use very little black and white for the highlights and shadows. Most of which I then hit with my custom yellow to help soft- en the contrast. I removed the masking around the beak and talons after I finished painting them for the picture.
