FORGET MICKEY MOUSE, Winnie the Pooh and The Lion King – a new breed of Disney brands are taking over the small screen. The Disney Channel has gone from airing classic kids cartoons to picking up a massive pre-teen audience with its TV comedies, dramas and films. Over recent years it has featured hit shows such as Hannah Montana, Sonny With a Chanceand films like the hugely successful Camp Rock.
NEW SCHOOL The four key brands in Disney Channel All Star Party
HANNAH MONTANA This series focuses on a teenage schoolgirl who leads a double-life as a famous pop singer. The show launched the career of teen actress and singer Miley Cyrus.
SONNY WITH A CHANCE Disney’s sit-com follows the experiences of Sonny Munroe (played by Demi Lovato), who gets picked to star as an actress in fictional TV show ‘So Random’. A Sonny With a ChanceDS mini- game title was released this year.
CAMP ROCK
Movie franchise featuring The Jonas Brothers. The first film was watched by 8.9m when it premiered on the Disney Channel. A range of DS titles followed.
WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE The story of a Mexican-Italian family that has magic powers living in America. The TV show first aired in late 2007 and has been
adapted into two full- length films.
Now Disney is bundling all these popular shows into one Wii gaming package for fans.
Disney Channel All Star Party allows players to take part in more than 30 mini-games across seven different locations to become the All Starchampion. Gameplay is comparable to other turn-based party hits such as Mario Partyand Wii Party, but with a strong Disney vibe. Players can pick their favourite
Disney Channel character from shows and interact with others from The Suite Life On Deck, Camp Rock, Phineas & Ferband more (see ‘New School’ below for the four key brands). Mini-games include Wizards of Waverly Place12-ball, Suite Life’s S.S. Tipton bridge cross and a Phineas & Ferbmonster truck chase. The game also features locations from the TV shows and movies including the beaches of
Malibu, the set of So Random and the S.S. Tipton boat.
All the in-game activities are motion-compatible, meaning kids and parents alike are able to get up on their feet and take part in a family-friendly party experience. On top of this, fans also have the ability to keep track of high scores, take part in individual competition sessions and unlock additional mini- games the more they play.
