Getting an e-gaming foundation
An introduction to the e-gaming industry on the Isle of Man, has government and local support as the sector looks to increase the size of the workforce on the island. The foundations are being laid.

The course, run by the government’s Department of Economic Development and Hamblin Employment Group, was designed for those people on the island considering or starting a career in the sector. The e-Gaming Foundation Course was put together for those wishing to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for entry into the dynamic sec- tor. The three day course con- sisted of four modules designed to increase the participants’ awareness and understanding of the e-Gaming sector and how they might position and present themselves to a potential em- ployer.
Garth Kimber, head of e-gam- ing development at the Depart- ment of Economic Develop- ment, commented: “I am delight- ed that we have received such great support from the employ- ers for this training. Lisa Under- wood (e-Gaming Development Manager) has used her own ex- perience in training and input from the industry to ensure that the Department of Economic De- velopment and Hamblin can offer a fantastic opportunity to understand and learn the skills that some of the fastest growing businesses on the Island are keen to find.”
The government’s Alex Down- ie MLC commented: “Not only does this raise the profile of the industry both locally and further afield, but it is also a show of sup- port for our existing employers
in the sector and will assist them in increasing their employment of Manx workers.”
Emma Allard, CEO at Ham- blin, added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Department of Economic De- velopment and some of the major e-Gaming companies here on the Island. Having the right at- titude, work ethos and high lev- els of self-awareness are vital at- tributes to potential e-gaming employers.”
The next course will be held on 2-4 November 2010 at the In- ternational Business School. Rory Anderson, chief execu- tive officer of 12Bet Europe, said: “12Bet is well-known in the Asian market and we wanted to extend our reach into Europe. We believe the Isle of Man is the perfect platform from which to do this. The island is known for its firm but fair regulation of re- mote gambling.
