an aircraft in its category – providing an assured platform for growth. The latest edition of the Airbus Global
Market Forecast published earlier this year forecasts a demand for over 3,000 freighters in the ‘more than 60-tonne’ category during the next 20 years. It also foresees the need for around 1,600 mid-sized freighters, a range in which the A330-200F will play a very important role. So now is the right time to develop the freighter, the company maintains. The A330-200F will satisfy a large
percentage of the demand for extra capacity by providing better main-deck and lower-deck flexibility than any of its competitors, offering at the same time additional range and more lift. Furthermore, the aircraft features a reinforced fuselage plus a new strengthened floor with a specially designed floor grid to handle higher density loads. configuration, Airbus says the A330-200F can meet the specific requirements of different markets, such as low-density express business or the general cargo market with its need for a higher load density. The flexibility of the aircraft has been further enhanced with the introduction of a versatile main- deck cargo loading system, which can accommodate both pallets and containers – enabling operators to serve the freight lift needs of these varying markets. The aircraft can fit up to 23 pallets

such as the single-row loading of 16 pallets, and a mix of nine AMA containers with four pallets. The spacious lower- deck cargo hold accepts up to 26 LD3 containers, plus 19.7m3

IN JULY, Etihad Airways reported its strongest first- half performance ever, with large increases being seen in both passenger and cargo traffic. In the second quarter of the period, the airline recorded a 21.6 percent increase in cargo tonnage carried. “With this continued improvement in our passenger and cargo traffic … we are confident of meeting our targets,” said airline CEO James Hogan. He noted that the result had been achieved
despite the difficulties caused by the cloud of volcanic ash created by the eruption in Iceland that closed much of the airspace in northern Europe for six days in April.
