certification to BES 6001 – Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products with BSI. This achievement covers Tarmac’s UK business, including its Tarmac Building Products Limited subsidiary, and will allow the company to meet evolving customer requirements as well as support the Government and construction industry’s strategy for improving the sustainability of the built environment.

BES 6001 is the first detailed standard for responsible sourcing applicable to all construction products. In 2008, the Concrete Industry Sustainable Construction Forum also developed and published a sector guidance document to help interpret the requirements of the standard as they apply to the industry. Tarmac Limited’s UK operations comprises two main businesses: Tarmac Limited supplying crushed rock and gravel aggregates, cement and lime, ready mixed concrete and asphalt and subsidiary company, Tarmac Building Products Limited supplying precast concrete products, blocks, mortar and screed, industrial sands and packed aggregates and a range of packed specialist cementitious blends.
