Customer Open Day is huge success

On the 22nd June Belzona held a Facilities Maintenance Customer Open Day at their Technology Centre based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

The event was attended by over 35 new and existing customers from around the area ranging from Facilities Managers, Estate Managers and Architects. The aim of the open day was to give attendees a better understanding of the polymeric solutions Belzona offer to repair, protect and improve their facilities, and to educate on traditional repair methods versus using modern materials. The agenda for the day covered a range of areas including solutions for facilities management, technology and service from Belzona and in addition, some large scale product demonstrations which have never been done in the history of Belzona! This was a great way for attendees to join in and gain experience on applying Belzona products discovering how simple they are to use. Gordon Cairns, National Sales Manager for Belzona explained: “The key to making the day a success is to keep each session relatively short”. One of the most effective

demonstrations titled, ‘Waterproofing with Water’ involved using a powerful hose against a wall of the Belzona building which had been partially coated with Belzona 5122 (Clear Cladding), a clear water repellent product for masonry surfaces. This demonstration showed the powerful nature of polymers that can impregnate the surface of a mineral substrate. Using water as the carrier, they are able to penetrate deep into the porosity of the substrate to form an invisible micro porous coating that will allow any moisture to escape whilst remaining completely waterproof. To give Belzona staff and attendees a chance to network and share experiences, a summer sizzling Belzona Barbeque was held for lunch followed by a visit from the ice-cream van later in the day.

Belzona will be holding similar events in the near future across a range of industries including the Power industry. If you are interested in participating please contact 01423 567641 or alternatively sales@belzona.co.uk

12 feature :: building & refurbishment

curtain walling

An office building at 10 Fenchurch Street in the City of London has been refurbished and two additional floors added by John Robertson Architects. The cladding work involved installing a fully glazed, high performance, curtain walling façade from Structura UK Ltd on the existing floor level 8, and on the new floors 9 and 10 to match the retained exterior of the 25-year-old building. Over 100 bespoke, floor to ceiling height, Strongback steel window units clad in anodised aluminium were designed by Structura UK in conjunction with the architects to challenging standards to ensure the extended, external envelope is a seamless addition to the site, in keeping with the building’s original 1985 design by Sir Denys Lasdun, Peter Softley and Partners.

The windows contain an inner pane of 10mm Optifloat Grey glazing, a 16mm argon-filled air cavity, and a 10mm soft coat, Low E toughened glass outer pane. A feature of the new curtain walling is the South-facing full height, sloping glazing on the 9th and 10th floors offering panoramic views over London. Water tests to CWCT standards on the new façade were successfully completed by Structura UK. Part of Structura UK’s £2.1m contract

included refurbishing and cleaning the retained anodised aluminium façade which had discoloured over the years. At street level, Structura UK installed a Pilkington Planar, full height, frameless glazing system for maximum visual clarity incorporating an entrance served by two sets of automatic, bi-parting sliding doors. The extension and refurbishment of the 10-storey, 6584 sq m building was carried out for Standard Life Investment Funds Ltd/Bellhouse Joseph Developments. The main contractor was Mace Plus and the cladding consultants were Cladtech Associates. Tel: 020 8397 4361. Email: mail@structura.co.uk www.structura-uk.com

Simpler specification with Rada’s selector

Rada has just

published its Product Selector, a guide to the UK’s widest range of showering, washroom controls, fittings and systems designed for commercial

applications. This intuitive guide is grouped by application and colour-coded for ease of use, presenting each product complete with key features and benefits, best practice applications, approvals and, where relevant, plumbing schematics. In a handy, pocket-

size four-colour format; the 148-page selector includes sector icons for the different products as a guide to their application suitability – healthcare, education, sports/leisure, defence, prison, washroom and industrial.

The product pages also use icons that show product characteristics and approvals, such as WRAS approval or features to aid

legionella management or reduce water

consumption. They also provide web links where further information may be downloaded.

Highlights in the edition include Rada’s digital washroom controls which sport advanced features such as non-touch activation

and temperature adjustment. The range also enables thermal disinfection and automatic duty flushing, both of which aid the control of Legionella bacteria and the maintenance of high standards of hygiene. www.radacontrols.com
