Discover Terrazzo Piazzo Resin Surfaces has supplied over 1,000m2

of Epoxy Terrazzo to the brand new Discover Greenwich visitor centre at the Old Royal Naval College. The specialist flooring manufacturer was able to provide the client’s bespoke colours as well meet the tight programme schedule and delivery timings to the very restricted site.

Discover Greenwich at the Old Royal Naval College is a new £6million contemporary cultural venue in the heart of Maritime Greenwich. The new venue includes a restaurant, bar and café and uses state of the art interpretation techniques and rare artefacts in permanent and temporary exhibitions. The brand new facility required a fresh and modern floor covering of unquestionable durability to withstand the daily foot fall it would receive.

Dick Lovegrove, Managing Director at Datum Industrial Flooring Ltd, comments: “We switched specification from another Terrazzo manufacturer to Resin Surfaces for their ability to formulate the client’s bespoke colours. We regularly specify Resin Surfaces flooring for their exceptional service and delivery.” The tender for the works was received from VINCI Construction UK who contracted Datum Flooring, specialist industrial flooring contractors based in Surrey, to install the floor in three stages to accommodate the fitting of an underfloor heating system. R.S. Terrazzo was laid at 10mm thick, ground and polished down to 8mm and finished with a clear surface dressing of Resupen WB Matt.

R.S. Terrazzo is a four-part component heavy duty epoxy system that contains

decorative aggregates, to achieve a very stylish and unique floor finish. The ornamental surface effect is produced through a mixture of aggregates and stones consisting of synthetic, glass and marble. R.S. Terrazzo from its Piazzo range was specified for the centre, a bespoke silver, grey base, with black, grey and white speck detail, creating an ultra sophisticated and modern appearance – enhancing the overall atmosphere of the centre.

R.S. Terrazzo has exceptional durability and long life expectancy, benefits which were ideally suited to the centre to withstand the daily foot traffic from visitors and staff. Once installed, R.S. Terrazzo is a seamless floor covering. Application around corners and curved areas is made simple through the smooth installation process and elimination of any jointing or grouting, making it free from any potential weaknesses.

Duncan Wilson OBE, Chief Executive, The Greenwich Foundation, says: “The striking and unique floor finish certainly helps to create a contemporary atmosphere which was needed for the new build – where we are using advanced technology and exhibits to tell the story of Maritime Greenwich and the Old Royal Naval College. Its decorative qualities and its hard wearing properties make the terrazzo the ideal choice for the new Discover Greenwich visitor centre.” www.resinsurfaces.co.uk www.datum-flooring.co.uk

Dexion’s versatile slotted angle is right in fashion

It may be over sixty years old, but Dexion’s versatile Slotted Angle has never really gone out of fashion. Used worldwide in the construction of benches, display cabinets, safety screens, access platforms, fire barriers and much more, Slotted Angle has now been used to help showcase Britain’s fashion stars of the future at Graduate Fashion Week which was held at London’s Earl’s Court in June.

Dexion provided Sussex based Northbrook College with its Slotted Angle to enable them to build an innovative display stand that not only enabled students to transport their literature but also allowed them to use the mobile stand as part of their exhibit. The Northbrook College catwalk show was a great success and in particular proved a launch pad for Rhea Fields who won the ‘Best Womenswear’ award for her ‘About A Boy’ collection.

Further Dexion Slotted Angle was also supplied to Birmingham City University’s Fashion, Textiles and Three Dimentional Design students who used the construction kit to display their work. Students used Slotted Angle to build a frame from which they hung their designs.

10 feature :: building & refurbishment

This concept was taken up by a number of other colleges who had also decided Slotted Angle made an ideal platform on which to show their work.

Dexion Slotted Angle is quickly and easily cut to size and bolted together to form frameworks, which can be readily modified or completely dismantled, and the components re-used. Strong enough to last a lifetime and infinitely re-usable, the slot pattern means that all four angles can be used together in an installation and the slots are designed to give the maximum number of nut and bolt positions.
