The 150-space car park off Wessex Street raises money for school improvements and a range of good causes, even helping children as far afi eld as Africa. RCP Parking and Bignold School were delighted when they won the fi rst Parking in the Community category of the British Parking Awards 2010 in London. The award celebrates parking schemes that make a valuable impact on their local community and show the good work that parking and its personnel can do. RCP Parking general manager, Tony
Wakeling, said: ‘It’s fantastic that we can combine fundraising for so many worthwhile causes with quality contract delivery, and we’re delighted our excellent Norfolk partnership has been celebrated at a national level as a shining example of how parking really can play a positive role in communities.’ He added: ‘We’ve certainly noticed that many people attach considerable importance to being able to park right in the heart of Norwich while knowing they are giving something tangible back to the community. Primary School and Nursery became the fi rst winners of the new Parking in the Community Award at the British Parking Awards 2010 in March. During weekends and school holidays for
the last 20 years, the Norwich school has turned its staff car park and playgrounds into a popular city centre shoppers’ car park. The scheme was originally run through parent groups and manned by a team of helpers but, in 2007, national

improved, new playground equipment is being enjoyed and a sensory garden has been created in the school grounds. Funds have also been spent on turning an old mobile classroom into a colourful Magic Room, used for music and play.
