NEWS COUNCIL UPDATE

Taking reins from Hein

It is all change at the top of the BPA as Graham Brown steps into the presidential shoes. Here, he outlines his aspirations for the year ahead

I

have been involved in the parking industry for more than 20 years, but if you had told me that I would be president of the British Parking Association (BPA) in its 40th year, I would never have believed you. I have always liked

meeting new and interesting people – a prerequisite in this industry: people skills are a must! I have been fortunate

to be on the BPA Council for the last eight years and I can

GRAHAM BROWN –

A SHORT BIOGRAPHY All my working life I have been involved in the printing industry, first as a printer, then moving into sales.

I have been also involved in the parking industry for more than 20 years, with 17 years spent working for Liberty Services, the last eight as sales director.

I have been an elected member of the BPA Council since 2004 and in that time I have worked on many committees and chaired the Parking Forum Group. I am a founding member of the Institute of Parking Professionals (IPP) and I am also on the Executive Management Board. The path to the presidency began when I was elected to junior vice-president in 2008 and senior vice-president the following year. My interests are mainly my family; I have a daughter, a son-in-law and two wonderful grandchildren with whom I try to spend as much time as possible. I also spend time on charity work for the two organisations I support.

Welcome Mr President… Graham Brown starts his presidential year

honestly say I have made some great friends in that time. Just look at the BPA

head office. What a team! When I joined, John Heasman was at the helm, and what a gentleman he was. Ten there is Jane Hack, who has guided me through the protocol you have to follow when becoming a member of the Council. Over the years, the

BPA has just got bigger and better, with the benefits of membership becoming ever-greater. Te appointment of Kelvin Reynolds has increased our technical knowledge, and chief executive Patrick Troy is using his years of experience to steer us through the tricky and changing times we are currently facing. I feel honoured to

hold the position of president and I look

forward to meeting you all over the coming year. Te EPA Congress in

Liverpool and our own Annual Conference in London are two events I am looking forward to; however, my main aim during my year is to visit all the BPA Regions. I have three areas that

I intend to focus upon over the next 12 months as president. Tese are:

l The local authority members

For these members I would like events provided by the BPA to be self-financing, adequately sponsored and relevant for the members needs;

l The private parking sector

Te proper regulation of this sector is of primary concern to
