Anjna Patel is taking over as vice-president
SUPPORTING ROLE
The vice-president for the forthcoming year is ground- breaking parking manager Anjna Patel.
Patel joined Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council as a traffic warden in 1979, where she was stationed at West Bromwich Police Station. She was quickly promoted to supervisor and became ‘the first ethnic traffic warden to be promoted in the country’.
She then spent some time honing her traffic management skills in areas around

Nine years later, Patel moved back to Sandwell and West Bromwich, where she worked within the Road Safety division before making the move into parking in 2000, when Sandwell took on decriminalised parking enforcement.
Besides her knowledge of local authority parking issues and commitment to raising standards, Patel is also the driving force behind Parasol, the charity that helps members of the armed forces who are injured in conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
