TECHNICAL FOCUS
Kelvin Reynolds, technical
services director, introduces this month’s Technical Focus
I want to take this opportunity to thank Richard Hein for his support during his presidential term. Richard has been a big supporter of the BPA and especially the Safer Parking Scheme. The presidency of the BPA alternates between the public sector and the private sector, giving it a balanced approach. Graham Brown, our new president, follows in this tradition. Graham has been chair of the Parking Forum since 2009 and in doing so has made contact with many of our stakeholders.
The Parking Forum is the key vehicle by which
the BPA engages with like-minded organisations to develop consensus and allies for common purpose. It is proving invaluable and in the coming months is set to go from strength to strength. Paul Necus, senior vice president, took over as chair at the August meeting. Working in partnership with members, government, national and local and other stakeholders is the way forward for the parking sector.

Calling in the specialists
Getting a good report
Te BPA Annual Reports Guidance Note for Civil Parking Enforcement has been reviewed and is now published on the BPA website. Tis practice note will give guidance to our members about how to produce a good Parking Annual Report.
20 AUGUST 2010
Te CPE/Knowledge Sharing Focus group has now been asked to review the RECiPE FAQ, and feedback will also be sought from the Department for Transport. Te revised version will be published on the BPA website.
To address the issues with prequalification questionnaires (PQQ’s) raised by the Equipment Manufacturer and Suppliers Special Interest Group (EMS SIG), the BPA is confident of securing the services of a specialist for the next meeting in September. It is hoped this initial meeting will lead to further discussions at the BPA Annual Conference in October. With regard to
parking control and revenue collection
equipment challenges to meet the needs of disabled motorists, a specialist consultant on the subject will present the results on his research on the matter. Te group is keen
to learn about how access control and revenue collection equipment can best serve the needs of people with disabilities. Everyone speaks of ‘DDA-compliant’ equipment, but there is no such thing as the law does not include a specification. Individual
situations must be assessed and appropriate measures taken. Te next meeting
is scheduled for 15 September 2010. If you are an equipment manufacturer or supplier, please put this date in your diary. If you feel you could
make a contribution to this group or would like to become more involved – hosting a meeting perhaps – contact Abdul Traore at abdul.t@
britishparking.co.uk or call 01444 447310.
THE MASTER PLAN
At the most recent Parking Forum meeting, the group discussed the BPA’s new master plan for parking, which outlines some of the key objectives for the association over the next five years at government level. Key actions to be delivered will be decided at future meetings.
The completed communications strategy plan was also discussed
and work continues on implementing enhancements to the website.
The next meeting takes place on 5 November 2010. Please visit the website to register your attendance.
