EARRINGS Cut a three link length of oval chain. String a headpin with a 5mm freshwater pearl and make a simple loop. Repeat two more times. Attach a headpin to each of the links in the oval chain. Connect to an earwire.
About a year ago I received an email from a young woman telling me her fiancé would be home on-leave for only four days and in two weeks they were getting married. She had no money for a bridal set and she heard I have a “loan out program” from a friend.
I told her to send a picture of herself in the dress so I could see the dress and get of sense of her stature. When I saw the picture of her in the strapless gown I knew just what I was going to create for her. When I was finished, I sent her a picture of the set and asked if that was what she had in mind; she was elated and tearful.
So I went to work and bought a beautiful box for it, packed it in tissue paper the color of her bridesmaid dresses and tied a big, exquisite bow to it. I placed it in a large priority mail box with bubble wrap, insured it, and mailed it out all within 3 days of her email.
Two weeks later I received a box. I grabbed it and looked down at the label. I froze in my tracks and I went cold. I kept it on my table for two days before I could bring myself to open it. When I did I realized the box had never been unpacked and the gift box was never opened. There was a small hand written note sitting on top the bubble wrap that read, “I never got to wear this.”
Had she opened it she would have discovered the note I left for her in the gift box that said, “Keep it, I made it for you.”
I just recently took it out of the box and renamed it, “In Memory.”
