Mother of the Bride by Beverly Hancock

Inspiration for this piece came from Dale “Cougar” Armstrong’s book titled Wirework. Three pendants will hang from the three open boxes on the necklace base. There are many patterns for wire wrapping cabochons in Wirework. I suggest you create a bail shaped in a “hook” that attaches to the open boxes (the eye) on the necklace base. The hook is created by wrapping the bail wires with half-round wire, then molding the wire in the shape of a hook. This way, the pendants can be removed from the necklace base for storage. Additionally, different pendants can be worn on the same necklace base. – Beverly

Cut three 5” lengths of 20 gauge sterling silver half hard square wire. Cut two 7” lengths of 20 gauge gold-filled half hard square twisted wire. Mark the center of one of the 7” gold-filled wires and form an open box for the center pendant to hang from. Measure 1” away on each side of the center mark and form two more open boxes for the two smaller pendants to hang. Using one of the three 5” lengths of wire, string eight 4mm Swarovski Siam 2xAB crystal bicones and four 4mm silver bicones in the pattern shown (four groups with two 4mm Swarovski Siam 2xAB crystal bicones on each side of a 4mm silver bicone). Stack (or bundle) the wires with the gold wires on the outside of the bundle and the wire with the bicones in the center of the bundle. Space the bicones so that they are not over the open boxes but are in the spaces between the open boxes. Tape the bundle together as needed to keep it together and evenly space the bicones. On each side of every open box, place five wraps of half round wire to hold the bundle. Measure ¾” of each end of the silver wires in the bundle and place seven wraps of half round wire. Cut two 7” lengths of silver chain. Form a loop at each end of the wire necklace with the remaining silver wires, connecting each side to a 7” length of chain. Using the longer gold wires at each end, form scroll designs to finish each end of the base. Using split rings, connect half of a hook & eye clasp to the chain at each end of the necklace.
