LOW CARBON

UK fi rms will take technology to Australia

UKTI is hosting a trade mission to Australia from 19 to 23 July this year, in conjunction with the Enviro 2010 conference and exhibition (21-23 July) in Melbourne, to showcase UK innovation in environmental and low carbon technologies. Enviro 2010 will be presented by

EUEC, the USA’s largest energy and environment conference, was held in Phoenix, Arizona in February. UKTI led an environment and water seminar mission there, organised by Business to Business, and participating companies included Irbis, PCME and Plasrec. We spoke to two of the delegates

who travelled to the event with UKTI to fi nd out how they got on. William Averdieck of PCME said:

“EUEC is a key event for our customers and US distribution partners. The technical content of the seminar was relevant to our business in particulate emission monitoring and the networking potential (and reality) was really good with US colleagues in our industry. I was able to have substantial discussions with a number of potential partners and we are in the process of deciding which one will become our distributor for our wet stack instrument. The best thing about the visit was getting fi rst hand exposure to the US customer and regulatory requirements. All in all, it was a very valuable and well-organised

fi ve days. Attending the conference as part of a UK delegation opened many more doors than if I had attended on my own.” Dave Atkinson from Plasrec also

found the trip very worthwhile. “North America is potentially a huge market for the type of technology that we wish to introduce and when the opportunity to attend EUEC came up it was too good to miss. We were looking to explore the market and see if it was ready yet for this type of technology. To our great delight we found it was more than ready. The visit resulted in some very strong enquiries, not only from California, Washington and Hawaii, but also from Canada and Japan.”

opportunity to network with some of the top Australian companies in the environmental industry, such as Thiess, Sita, Veolia, Sydney Water, Parsons Brinckerhoff, GHD, Melbourne Water and Coffey Environments. They will also get access to speakers at the Enviro 2010 conference and exhibition. The visit will begin in Sydney on

19 and 20 July with a briefi ng on the environmental sector in Australia at the British Consulate-General in Sydney and an evening reception at the Consul-General’s house, followed by individual business meetings and/ or a group site visit the next day. The mission then continues in Melbourne from 21 to 23 July at Enviro 2010.
