various state and federal governments, as well as offering resourcing facilities, such as conferencing and event space. UKTI also invited Mr Morgan to speak at conferences and various networking events. This practical assistance enabled him to raise Enact’s profi le in Australia as well as gain valuable insights into the market. He says: “While we were setting up, UKTI opened doors for us, allowing easy access to key people and organisations in our industry, particularly in the green/carbon space, such as renewable energy companies and recruitment agencies.” He continues: “By participating in these conferences we were able to gain a greater understanding of the industry and the carbon markets in Australia. We are still getting calls from those early events and contacts.” Since Enact launched the Australian Green Project, it

has abated over 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide via the installation of low energy light globes, water saving showerheads, ceiling insulation and solar hot water. The interest in a more energy effi cient lifestyle, as well as the legislation for businesses to reduce carbon emissions, will continue to make Australia an attractive market for the company. In January 2010, Enact secured a major contract enabling it

to supply and install low energy light bulbs and water saving showerheads for free to households in Victoria. The Federal Government’s EEHP has also seen the take-up of ceiling insulation and solar hot water rocket. The package offers AU$1,200 worth of insulation to eligible households or up to AU$1,600 towards the installation of solar hot water. Some state governments are also offering a rebate for these installations. Enact has worked with several local councils and utility

companies facilitating the installation of energy saving products. By partnering with Enact, these organisations are able to offer their residents a full service programme and achieve their environmental goals. The company is currently managing a showerhead replacement programme in regional Victoria, which has seen the highest ever response in the fi rm’s history. Although it operates primarily in the household energy

effi ciency market, Enact also has a carbon division, which focuses on carbon development programmes and renewable energy technology. By using UKTI’s networks, the fi rm has gained a better understanding of renewable technology in Australia and is currently using these contacts and information as a part of its strategy to penetrate the renewable energy markets. During the past year UKTI has hosted Enact at various

functions and networking events. Mr Morgan says “It has been wonderful to share our experiences with other businesses from the UK who have set up in Australia. It has made it easier knowing we have the support of UKTI as well as other companies in similar positions to ours.”
