The education scene certainly looks very different than it did 50 years ago. One obvious change is that the few “cutting edge” (or strange, depending on your perspective) music educators that used African drumming in their general music class or showed photos of a Japanese koto are no longer considered unusual. As world music has moved beyond the novelty phase, it is apparent that there are more serious issues and questions to consider than one could possibly address in a short article like this.
