The centre stripe then got two coats of Etac
Carbon Black, and the masking tape re-
moved before the paint had ‘set’, to avoid
hard lines where the masking tape was. This
then helps in reducing the ‘steps’ in the paint
edges prior to clearing.
I then decided it needed some............
bling! So out came the airbrush, and it got
two coats of FW Acrylic pearl yellow ink!
Never tried this stuff before, but wow I’m
impressed, and it will look awesome once
cleared! A coat of Medea Top Coat, and
back into the airing cupboard!
The design for the dragon was then laid out
using a photocopy of the reference picture
and some Tracedown paper underneath.
This, for those that don’t know, is a wax-free
type of carbon paper that comes in different
colours.
I found that none of my metallic paints would give me the level of detail I wanted to lay the design down
with so decided to use Gold and Silver Posca Paint Pens, 5M for the larger areas, and 3M for the more
detailed bits,. It’s also getting painted in reverse so it’ll look less than ideal at the start, and (hopefully!!)
get better as I go along. The pens also give the design a little bit of ‘texture’ to the body.
