I cut out of the paper reference some of the dark area
stencils that will be used to establish a map of my sub-
ject. You can see the darks of the eye, nostril, and bridle
straps.

Its pretty well all freehand from here on in. For the brown
shades I use a mix of AA trans root beer, AA opaque dark
brown, AA opaque light brown and AA detail yellow. I
spray in some detail horse markings on the body with
a weak gray mixture. Every marking matches my refer-
ence photo. I also fog detail yellow over the top half of
the body to warm up the piece. I use thinned down white
to create shape through out the project. I use my HP-C
to airbrush in the mane with a mix of trans white, root
beer and detail yellow.

Continuing thru the horse with the same procedure using
lighter and darker values of my brown mixtures and using
white to help create shape , then going back over with the
browns again until I have a satisfactory level. For the nose
area I mixed trans white, a little red and some orange to cre-
ate a peach type color. For the bridle I used a mixture of
the detail red brown and trans root beer, along with some
shadow color.
