CLIVES HELMET
by Clive Stevens
This project is a kind of fusion of both airbrush, and paint pen, which in my opinion works really well, and
will be the basis of the majority of my work from now on!
Materials: Iwata TR1 and TR0, FW Pearlescent Yellow, Medea Topcoat, Etac Carbon Black and Titanium
White, ComArt Transparent Black and Transparent Smoke, Uni Posca 3M Gold, 5M Gold, 3M Silver, and
1M Black pens. Rattlecan White Primer and Signal Yellow, Liquid Latex, White Tracedown, Ultramask,
Scotchbrite pads, 2400 and 3200 grit micromesh, Blue fine line tape, and Autoclear 2K clearcoat.
This helmet started out life as a standard Viper ‘factory finish’ full face helmet. After removing ALL the fit-
tings, visor, vents, trim etc and storing in a safe, paint dust free area, and the visor mount bolt holes filled
with a suitable size bolt, the helmet shell was scuffed all over with a Red Scotch Brite pad and Ajax pow-
der until it was completely matt finish! It was then de-greased with white spirit, the edges, visor opening,
and behind the vents where masked off, and given three coats of white primer. After a night in the airing
cupboard (as it’s now a touch chilly in the garage), this was then scuffed lightly with a green Scotch Brite
pad and no Ajax this time, and given three coats of Signal Yellow.
Once this was wiped
down again with white
spirit, the centre line
was marked with 2mm
blue fine line tape as a
guide, and 3mm blue
fine line tape laid to
mark the edge of the
centre stripe. The rest
was then masked off
using masking tape and
plain drawing paper.
