With ultra thin solvent black paint, I add more depth
to the alien by spraying it over the my darker parts
of the design. In this manner I can also control how
much I want to darken each part. It also helps me to
get a perfect transition between the white and black
/grey tones. When I say black it’s not really because
the black solvent paint tends to be more brown when
they are thinned a lot. This brown color is perfect for

my design and helps me to get an organic color.

I do the same job on the opposite side of the helmet
on that alien face. With transparent blue I add some
colour to the galaxy. I also add colour to the back-
ground with iridescent Auto-Air blue and purple. Iri-
descent paints are very impressive by adding various
light effects to your design, especially on a dark co-
lour, depending of course on the light they are viewed
in.

I continue by spraying alternatively and very lightly,
iridescent paints building my design up. I also con-
tinue to build the sky background with ultra thin pink,
purple, blue and orange paint. All these colours are
not very visible in the picture but it gives a very nice
subtle changing effect depending of the light direction
viewed from. It also gives a very light colour to the
alien face. There you have the painting, design pro-
cess I used on this alien themed helmet.

The helmet receives three coats of two parts clear,
sanded with 1500, 2000 , trizact 3000 grit paper : and
then buffed until I get a very nice mirror effect. I hope
some of these techniques you can take and use in
your own airbrush projects.
