President Mary McAleese Launches the Public Phase of TILDA

TILDA’s Health Assessment Centre and the public phase of the study was launched by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese M.A. (j.o.), LL.D. (h.c.) (1985) in May 2009. TILDA – The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing – is a study of a representative cohort of 8,000 Irish people over the age of 50, charting their health, social and economic circumstances over a 10- year period.

The Intellectual Disability Supplement to TILDA was launched by the Minister for Equality, Disability and Mental Health, John Moloney, T.D. in the School of Nursing and Midwifery in December 2008.

Driving the Smart Economy – TCD / UCD Innovation Alliance

In March this year, Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and University College Dublin (UCD) jointly unveiled a visionary plan as part of the national recovery initiative built around the Smart Economy.

The TCD / UCD Innovation Alliance is a radical partnership which will work with the education sector, the State and its agencies alongside the business and venture capital communities to develop a world-class ecosystem for innovation that will drive enterprise development and the creation of sustainable high value jobs.

Zoological Museum Wins National Award

The newly refurbished Zoological Museum has won the Highly Commended Award in the category of ‘Best Collections Care Project’ in the 2009 Museum of the Year Awards. A feature of Trinity’s Zoological Museum is the many examples of extinct and endangered species including Ireland’s last Great Auk which was declared extinct in 1844, the Tasmanian wolf and the Great Indian rhinoceros.
