Northern California Branch

A successful event was held at the Palomino restaurant at the Bay Bridge, San Francisco at the start of the year where more than 20 guests with a wide range of interests attended.

Graduates were involved in a Bloomsday event in Berkeley with the Wilde Irish Theatre Group and Senator David Norris M.A. (1968) took part in an event in July. In August, members attended a Tour of Irish Wineries which was most memorable!

Finally for 2009, the branch has kindly been invited to an event by the Consul General, Hon. Gerry Staunton. The branch goes from strength to strength and we hope 2010 will bring more growth. A new website has been set up www.tcd-ussf.com. Graduates from Seattle to Sacramento are invited to join.

Mid Atlantic Branch

A New Year’s gathering was held at Dupont Circle in Washington DC, followed by a get-together at the same venue just before St Patrick’s Day. Linda and Douglas (Doug) Syme B.A.I. (1972) hosted a delightful winter lunch party at their home in Downingtown outside Philadelphia, and Donal Donovan B.A. (1973) and his wife Paula Donovan B.A. (1979) invited us back to their home near Great Falls Virginia for a May party. We expect to have several more gatherings this year in the DC and Philadelphia areas. The Branch covers the mid-Atlantic region from Philadelphia as far south as Richmond, Virginia, and from Washington DC to Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Ontario Branch

The sixth annual dinner at The National Club on Bay Street welcomed 50 alumni, guests and friends of Trinity who gathered for a stimulating evening on Darwin with one of our notable graduates, Professor Janet Bell Browne B.A. (1972).

There has been increasing interaction between our group and Oxbridge, LSE and US alumni groups in Toronto, including pub nights, a networking event, and a well attended US election debate.

This year’s dinner took place in September 2009 with guest speaker Professor David McConnell M.A., F.T.C.D. (1966). Alumni interested in joining the Ontario branch are encouraged to contact John Payne, M.A. (1974) at tcd@aci.on.ca.

Victoria Branch

‘Down-Under’ in Melbourne, the Victoria Branch rotated through another year. Early summer saw a well attended BBQ at the beautiful Sorrento home of Gordon and Anne Jacques B.Comm. (1961) in the Mornington Peninsula.

May welcomed a cocktail party kindly hosted by Mary Waldron B.B.S. (1988). Overlooking the Yarra River and Melbourne’s CBD, the event was organised by Ciaran Horgan B.B.S., M.A. (1983). The annual dinner was held at University House, University of Melbourne in July with a full house and a Christmas event is planned.

Trinity alumni settling or visiting Victoria, Australia should contact Ciaran chorgan@internode.on.net
