Devon & Cornwall Branch

Our annual lunch was enjoyed by 41 members and guests at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club on Saturday 4 April, 2009, as was a tour of Torbay organised by Michael Clapham B.A.I. (1968) and John Clapham M.A. (1963). Four graduates from the South East, Helen Kalisher, Martin Hare M.A. (1962), Jim Turtle M.A. (1964) and Francis Williams B.A.I. (1965) were also welcomed.

North-West England Branch

Graduates from the North-West Branch descended upon Liverpool in September 2008 for lunch in the Adelphi Hotel and a tour of their magnifi cently restored St George’s Hall. In April of this year, we were delighted to welcome as principal guest, Senator David Norris M.A. (1968) to our Annual Dinner in April, held at the Lancashire County Cricket Club. The Senator presented a refreshing, knowledgeable, controversial, and challenging talk covering a wide range of subjects relevant to Trinity College and life as it is lived today in Dublin.

We would encourage graduates in the area to provide us with appropriate contact details so that they can be included in future activities.

Oxfordshire Branch

Oxfordshire Branch held a luncheon in Wadham College, Oxford, in July, which was attended by forty two graduates and guests. After a drinks reception in the spacious 17th century ante-chapel, the meal was served in the splendid Hall. Afterwards, Irish poet and Fellow of Wadham, Bernard O'Donoghue, introduced and read a selection of his work which was much appreciated. The party then visited the College's renowned gardens.

Scotland Branch

A guided tour to Newhailes House in Musselburgh, gifted in 1987 to the National Trust of Scotland, took place in the summer of 2008. Margaret Hodges (née Anderson) B.A. (1957) kindly invited members and their guests to tea after the tour.

The AGM, which was attended by 34 members, took place in December at the Irish Consulate General, kindly hosted by the Consul General of Ireland to Scotland, Cliona Manahan B.A. (1978).

Libyan Branch

The TCD Association Branch in Libya celebrated its 15th anniversary this year when a group of university teaching staff, Ph.D. and M.Sc. students from the Faculty of Medicine, Tripoli attended the happy occasion.

Mohamed A. Daw Ph.D. (1992), Professor and Head of DMI and Editor-in-Chief of Libyan Journal of Medicine, greeted the guests and gave a comprehensive illustration on the role of TCD in the world. Many leading fi gures in the Libyan Scientifi c community graduated from Trinity College and have contributed to improving Libyan society in every fi eld, particularly in medicine. Professor Daw emphasised the role of the Libyan branch in promoting Libyan students to study at Trinity College.
