Orienteering Maps Presented to the Map Library

A unique archive of over 1,000 Irish orienteering maps was donated to the Glucksman Map Library by the Irish Orienteering Association (IOA) in March 2009. Trinity Librarian and College Archivist, Robin Adams M.A. (j.o.) (2002), accepted the maps from IOA Chairman and Mapping Offi cer, Marcus Geoghegan B.A.I. Sport, Sweat and Science

What does it take to be the best? Sport, Sweat and Science, a two-day event at the Science Gallery got under the skin of Ireland’s elite athletes in a ‘living exhibition’ to measure athletic performance in April.

Trinity’s Human Performance Laboratory allowed members of the public to test their own athletic ability against the results of Irish sporting fi gures including Dublin GAA player, Bryan Cullen (pictured) and 400m relay runner, Fiona O’Friel. Director of the Trinity’s Human Performance Laboratory Bernard Donne M.Sc., M.A. (j.o.) (1989), and Dr Nicholas Mahony M.B., M.Sc. (1987), lecturer in sports medicine at the Department of Anatomy, measured the endurance, strength and skill of the athletes and members of the public using the latest scientifi c processes and equipment.
