Accenture Leaders of Tomorrow Award

Anne Byrne and Nathalie Ennis, were winners of Accenture Leaders of Tomorrow Best Technology Enabled Solution Award for 2009. The Business Economic and Social Studies (BESS) students presented a case-study strategy encompassing a brand refresh, technology review and expansion plan through online sales channels.

Ireland Challenged: Active Citizenship in Context

In a public lecture hosted the Trinity Volunteering Opportunities Forum (TVOF), Vincentian Historian Dr Thomas McKenna gave a lecture in honour of Frederic Ozanam, founder of the St Vincent de Paul.

The lecture entitled Frederic Ozanam: 'Lessons from an Extraordinary Life', contrasted Ozanam's ideas with a discussion of consumer culture and its impact on modern society. The lecture was followed by a panel discussion titled Modern Ireland and Ozanam’s Ideas, involving Dermot McCarthy B.A., M.Litt., (1977), Secretary General, Department of An Taoiseach, Elaine Bradley M.Sc. (2005), CEO of Volunteering Ireland, John Monaghan M.Sc., M.A. (j.o.), Ph.D., Sc.D.(1978), Vice President of the St Vincent de Paul and Orla Gilligan Quinn, a student volunteer.

EquitAble Programme Launched in Sudan

The Trinity-led consortium in global health, EquitAble, has started a four-year interdisciplinary research programme on ‘Enabling universal and equitable access to healthcare for vulnerable people in resource poor settings in Africa’.

Launched in Khartoum by the Sudanese Minister of Health, the project will include over 8,000 participants across Sudan, Namibia, Malawi, and South Africa – drawn from a range of marginalised and vulnerable groups such as ethnic minorities, war displaced people, women, street children, rural dwellers, and people living in extreme poverty.


Historical Society Wins Irish Times Debating Team Award

John Gallagher and Andrea Mulligan, of Trinity’s Historical Society, were the winning team of The Irish Times Debating competition this year with the opposing motion, 'This house believes the partition of Ireland should remain permanent'. This is the third consecutive year in which the Trinity College Historical Society has won The Irish Times Debating competition, which is Ireland's biggest and most prestigious debating contest.
