installed, a 40 metre long wood & steel ramp at Birmingham University Institute of Art & Design is fit to use thanks to slip resistant flooring from Steni UK. A composite of glass fibre polyester resin and stone, its fine aggregate surface is over bonded with clear resin to give a long- lasting anti-slip surface for ramps, step covers, walkways, pontoons, bridges and deckings. Health and safety manager Eric Mead commented “the Steni
CPD Seminars lay down the facts about resin surfacing
product met the requirement we needed and it was very easy to work with, just requiring a drill and screws. The material acts perfectly with the wood and the executive of the faculty were very impressed with the appearance and suitability for purpose.” Steni’s Antislip flooring is
available in a choice of seven colours for timber, metal and concrete in new-build and refurbishment projects. Extremely robust and durable, it can be walked on immediately after installation,

DECEMBER 2009 Help is at hand for
long term control With dichlobenil having
lost its registration amenity managers might be wondering what replacement solutions are available to give long term control of broad-leaved weeds and grasses. Dow AgroSciences say help is at hand with a tank mix of Flexidor* 125 and Kerb* Flo. In combination, these two products are claimed to offer excellent control of a wide range of problem broad-leaved and grass weeds in amenity situations. For best results, Flexidor
125, at 2 litres per hectare, should be mixed with Kerb Flo at 4.25 litres per hectare, and applied in the autumn and winter, when the soil is moist and before broad-leaved weeds start to germinate. To minimise this risk, spray
operators should ensure there is a grass buffer strip between the area of application and any watercourse and should not apply the mixture to a hard surface. Care should also be taken when spraying ornamental plantings near turf to avoid damage to grasses. Flexidor 125 and Kerb Flo will both be available through Rigby Taylor for the amenity market.
