Efficient
illumination of public spaces
Osram has introduced an
innovative new LED module onto the market for brilliant and efficient illumination of public spaces. STREETlight is a highly resilient and energy efficient module that consumes just 29W and benefits from a lifetime of up to 50,000 hours. Its compact dimensions enable individual luminaire design and it is easy to install without using any tools due to a metal base plate that it simply snaps into.
STREETlight features an optical lens reflector concept using three multichip LEDs to ensure improved uniformity for technical street lighting. It is possible to individually adapt the required brightness of a streetlight by varying the number of modules. Thanks to the inclusion of LED technology, the module benefits from very low power consumption and a long lifetime. STREETlight also provides a 30% energy saving compared to HCI and HQI lamp solutions and requires up to 50% less luminous flux due to better light guiding. Sue Kempster,
Account Manager,
National Street
Lighting/Public Authorities at OSRAM says: “LED technology is highly robust which is why it is ideal for street lighting applications. Shocks have no effect on their output or lifespan which means that STREETlight is perfect for lighting applications where vibrations are constant.

flyover has been illuminated and the area made safer by a joint venture between Light Projects, arts organisation Urban Eye and TFL. The result is a transformation of the dark and dangerous areas under the flyover near the communities of Ladbroke Grove and Portobello Road. This major structure, which was previously underlit and one
of the two main police crime 'hotspots' in the Borough, has been completely transformed into a pleasurable scene of activity between North and South Kensington. The new work includes striking artwork on some of the walls designed by Miles Watson, and a colourful lighting scheme by a creative partnership of Miles Watson and Lightscape Projects, part of the
WRTL Exterior Lighting hit the headlines recently when they were featured on the BBC 1 Inside Out programme. Eddie Henry, Operations Manager with Southwark Council. explained to leading astronomer Dr Chris Riley how Stela LED street lights are helping improve the problem of light pollution in UK cities. The programme explored the issues caused in part by sodium and mercury street lights and powerful floodlighting, which prevent populations living close to cities from seeing the stars. Eddie demonstrated how Stela LED street lights ensure that energy-efficient, carbon- friendly light is accurately distributed by showing an installation in the capital’s Burgess Park where he described Stela as: “Cutting-edge, state-of- the-art, and right up to the minute.” The Campaign for Dark Skies (CfDS), who presented a Good Lighting Award for to

Association (BAA), the UK's largest body representing the interests of all those who appreciate the beauty of the night sky and value it as a natural resource. They state that: “The starry sky is a site of special scientific interest and an area of outstanding natural beauty: if it can be seen. Light pollution is caused by careless lighting, which floods our skies with the orange glow of street lighting and floodlights.” Stela luminaires are proven to lessen light pollution, reduce carbon emissions by up to 68% compared to traditional solutions and provide high energy savings without the need to dim or switch off during the night, resulting in safer streets.
