BJD Crusher pitches in at GSB Loams

Fighting plant theft

DECEMBER 2009

Five star maintenance The 7,107 yard, par 73 golf JCB has become the first

A BJD MUD HOG crusher has been installed at leading loams and top dressings producer, GSB Loams Ltd., to process and blend soils for cricket squares and other sports pitches.

GSB Loams operates on a

7.5 acre site in the village of Great Cransley, near Kettering, and supplies clay-based loams and top dressings, bagged or in bulk, to sporting clubs and local authorities – a loam high in clay is essential for a cricket square as a light soil would simply absorb the force of the ball. The 2420 MUD HOG is capable of high reduction ratios and handling a high throughput of dry soil, or even wet and sticky material which would choke conventional crushers. John Goodjohn of GSB Loams said: “The MUD HOG has made an immense difference to our throughput; it has an insatiable appetite, giving us improved utilisation of raw materials and producing a much finer product than we could achieve in the past. Also, because the machine has an open base, it is able to blend the loam at the same time as reducing it.”

excavator manufacturer to achieve a three star Thatcham security rating in the construction machinery sector. The company has taken a lead in the fight against plant crime, achieving the three star rating on

all JS and JZ Auto wheeled and tracked excavators and on its popular 801 and 8020 mini excavators. Throughout the first six months of 2010, JCB will expand this market leading security initiative to include all

of its mini and midi excavators above one tonne operating weight.

course at the Luton Hoo Hotel Golf & Spa is maintained with a selection of Ransomes Jacobsen equipment. To manage the rough, the greenkeeping team use a Jacobsen AR522 rotary mower, which has five rotary decks with the latest TrimTek technology. Avon Bridges commented.

“We needed a five deck machine and tried all the machines on the market, but the TrimTek decks on the AR522 proved to be far superior to anything else. The design of the deck keeps the clippings suspended longer, so they are mulched more effectively and that results in a really great finish.” For the approaches and semi- rough the team use a Jacobsen

Smooth performance from Progressive The Progressive Pro-Flex 120

delivers a superb cut on the most undulating terrain, using five rotary decks with independent float fore and aft to closely follow ground contours while anti-scalp rollers prevent any damage to the turf on the steepest of descents. The Pro-Flex 120 is built on a

full frame to allow mowing to continue while backing up. Solid construction with 5mm deck material and the heavy duty frame ensure a long life with the

most demanding of workloads. Height of cut is adjustable

from 20 to 82.5mm in 5mm increments. Outer wings fold to give a transport width of 2.43m, and the three inner decks can be operated in this position, allowing access to more confined areas on the course and giving a 1.83m cut. See the Proflex at BTME on Grass Groups stand A38

AR3. Although a rotary mower, the fully floating decks have a rear roller so they can add a striped definition to the finely shaped contours of these areas. “The seating position on the AR3 is excellent as it allows good visibility of the front decks and the traction control is very good,” he added. “For the tees and surrounds we wanted a cylinder mower that was capable of tight turns without marking, so we trialled a Jacobsen TR3 cylinder. It proved superb and we purchased two. The added bonus is that they use the same tractor unit as the AR3, so that helps us keep spares to a minimum”.

manager at Launceston G C selected an MF 1540A compact tractor as being the ideal power unit for the club’s demanding course maintenance requirements.

Massey was

rated the best by every one of the staff,” said Graeme. “It’s very smooth, easy to drive and extremely well priced for a specification which includes spool valves, a forward folding mid rollbar and a three-range synchro-shuttle gearbox .” The 38hp MF 1540A is now

proving a first-class investment for the club, said Graeme.
