Backtalk V TUCKER
DICK MORRIS / GUEST COLUMNIST
Tucker Carlson Plays Russian Puppet
ladimir putin is desperate — and so is Tucker Carlson. Anyone who has caught his Fox News mono- logues can see it fi rsthand.
Carlson appears to have a lot invested in Russia winning
its war against Ukraine. But Russia is losing that war badly. Ukraine’s counteroff ensive has taken huge swaths of ter-
ritory back. In just a few weeks in September, Ukraine’s mili- tary recovered more than 3,000 square miles that Russia had occupied. Putin then panicked and mobilized
300,000 reservists. Numerous reports show his existing
troops are so poorly supplied with arms and even basics like food and clothing that they are literally fl eeing the battle- fi eld.
Russia is a corrupt nation — the most corrupt in Europe. Putin’s generals are
said to be stealing their own supplies to sell them on the black market. It is also a dictatorship and an existential threat to the
United States and our allies. Putin has repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons. Before the war started in February, Carlson said he would
side with Russia if there was ever a war. He even applauded as Russia moved troops to the Ukraine border. Russia was justifi ed, he claimed. Since then, he has used every opportunity to oppose
Ukraine, often with exaggerated claims and phony allega- tions.
During the Cold War, Soviet apologists would often cite
facts and claims from Pravda, as if they were really true. Today, Carlson recites Russian talking points with the same zeal. Carlson’s Fox videos have been shown on Russian state
media to bolster Putin’s war eff orts. On Fox, Carlson claimed Russia was just too big to fail.
He ignored Ukraine’s stunning battlefi eld victories. He said Russia had a mighty population, a mighty army,
a mighty economy, and that “it’s the largest country on planet Earth” — which refers only to its land mass, most of which is not even inhabited. The fact is Russia’s economy is a joke, on par with the
GDP of Mexico or Italy, and that was before the economic sanctions. But Carlson insists Ukraine should immediately sue for peace. And if they don’t do that, he wants the U.S. to cut all

aid to bring them to the negotiation table. So let me get this straight: Russia attacks its neighbor, Ukraine, for no reason. They weren’t joining NATO. They aren’t run by Nazis. They had no intent to attack Russia.
And then Russia begins a mass slaughtering of Ukraine
citizens — women and children — and starts burning to death captured POWs, putting Ukrainians in concentra- tions camps, raping and pillaging them — and Ukraine is the one we should stop funding and demand they negoti- ate?
Carlson’s nonsensical rants — which rarely criticize
Russia and never mention their atrocities — make numer- ous exaggerated claims. Take, for example, his recent claim that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants a nuclear fi rst strike on Russia. Carlson’s source? An anonymous quote by an unnamed
“aide” who said if Russia “thinks” of using nuclear weap- ons, the U.S. should strike them fi rst with nuclear weapons. This is hardly the policy of Zelenskyy, despite Carlson’s repeated claims it is. Carlson’s other claim, made many times, is that Presi-
dent Joe Biden and Democrats in Washington really want a war with Russia to remove and punish Putin for electing Donald Trump president in 2016. This bizarre conspiracy theory doesn’t resonate with
Trump. He believes Biden has been weak with Putin. Soon after becoming president, Biden removed Trump’s sanc- tions on Russia that stopped the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Germany. And after the war started, Biden was slow to help
Ukraine. He even suggested Zelenskyy fl ee his country. I have many issues with Biden, but the idea he is seeking
to engage Russia in a major war is simply not true. But the facts just don’t matter to Tucker Carlson. The U.S. should continue to support the underdog,
Ukraine. The U.S. supports Taiwan and Israel, both small nations facing giant adversaries. And our resolve with Ukraine is already paying big divi-
dends. China is reluctant now to invade Taiwan, and Iran is
thinking twice about striking Israel or other U.S. allies. Fortunately, we are not giving in to Putin’s blackmail. And as long as good sense prevails, we never will.
