The North West Construction of new Sainsbury’s store commences at Wirral Waters
Construction work has begun on a new Sainsbury’s Local store, which will serve Peel Waters’ regeneration project at Wirral Waters.
The waterfront store is being built on the corner of Dock Road and Duke Street, next to the 500 apartments at Peel Waters’ award-winning Millers Quay development, which is now fully occupied. It is also within walking distance of residents living at East Float Quay apartments and Redbridge Quay and will provide new jobs for the community.
The 4,300 sq ft store will feature a carefully curated selection of Sainsbury’s great value, high-quality food and other convenience prod- ucts. Open daily between 7am and 11pm, the store will provide everything from bread and pastries baked daily in-store to delicious fruit and veg, meat, fish and meal solutions, offering local customers more convenience and choice. Other features will include a free cash machine and a col- lection point for customers to order and collect from Argos, Tu clothing and Habitat.
Sainsbury’s will sit at the heart of this regenerated brownfield residen- tial area, providing a convenient, walkable amenity for the thousands of residents now living nearby, as well as for the growing business com- munity at Wirral Waters. It will be accessible to pedestrians from the quayside walkway.
In keeping with Wirral Waters’ environmental credentials, a number of sustainability measures will be included. It will be powered by 100% renewable electricity and will feature 100% LED lighting throughout. As an extension of the Millers Quay site, students from Wirral Met College will be engaged in the construction of this important local amenity.
Base Build Services has been appointed as the contractor to build the new store, which is due to open summer 2026.
Richard Mawdsley, Director of Development at Wirral Waters, said: “We’re really pleased to celebrate the start of this build as it will bring an impor- tant amenity and new jobs to the heart of this brand-new neighbourhood.
“Successful brownfield regeneration is about creating places and commu- nities where people want to live, work, and visit and a walkable, high-qual- ity convenience store is a vital part of that offer.
“By working closely with Sainsbury’s, we have also been able to ensure that the store will align with our high standards of sustainability, and that we can involve construction students from Wirral Met College, as they have been throughout the construction of Millers Quay. I am looking forward to seeing this new store come to life over the coming months.”
Cllr Paula Basnett, Leader of Wirral Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see yet more investment coming into Wirral Waters, bringing new services and amenities right into the heart of this growing neighbourhood. Developments like this play a huge role in building vibrant, connected communities, where people have what they need on their doorstep.
“This new store will support local residents and businesses, create new jobs, and add to the real sense of confidence and momentum we’re see- ing across Wirral. It’s another clear sign of turning our plans into reality, driving long term economic growth, building better places for our people and shaping a brighter future for our borough.”
James Industrial Limited: Delivering Modern Industrial Units in Prestatyn
The previously unused site has been transformed into a modern business park providing high-quality office, warehouse and industrial accommo- dation. Units start from 1,400 sq ft with the offer of flexible options to suit a range of businesses.
Mark Groves, Property Manager at the business park, commented:
“It has been fantastic to see the site transformed from a derelict space into a thriving hub for local businesses. The park has created an environment where companies can grow, collaborate and support one another, and we are proud to play a part in helping businesses achieve their goals.”
A recent planning application, managed by Alastair Skelton at Rapleys LLP, has also been approved for a new state-of-the-art padel facility on site. This exciting development will introduce a new leisure offering for the area and further enhance the appeal of the business park for both businesses and the local community. In addition, concrete yard space of up to 0.9 acres is available, providing floodlit secure areas with gated access and CCTV operating across the site.
James Industrial Limited are pleased to present Prestatyn Business Park, which opened in 2025 on the former derelict Kwik Save site off Warren Drive.
The business park occupies a picturesque location close to the sea- front, Prestatyn Championship Golf Club and the town centre. It also benefits from excellent connectivity, being approximately seven miles from the A55 Expressway with convenient access to Bangor and Chester, as well as the M53 and M56 motorways linking to the wider national motorway network.
COMMERCIAL PROPERTY MONTHLY 2026
Prestatyn Business Park is already 65% occupied/under offer, with strong interest from businesses across the region. James Industrial Limited hope to reach full occupancy during the course of the year as the develop- ment continues to establish itself as a key commercial destination in North Wales.
A tenant at the park commented: “Prestatyn Business Park provides a modern, well-maintained base for our business. The location and quality of the facilities make it an excellent place to operate and grow.”
