The County of Midlothian is located on Edinburgh’s doorstep combining the benefits of easy access to Scotland’s capital with a rural, peaceful location to develop and grow your business. Midlothian is one of six local authority partners in the Edinburgh and South East Scotland (ESES) City Region Deal established in 2018. Valued at £1.3 Billion over 15 years, this deal delivers new and more collaborative ways to deliver transformational change to the ESES regional economy.
The area is strategically linked to the A1 corridor, connecting Edinburgh to the Eastern Scottish Borders and the north of England and the A7 and A68 providing access to the Central Scottish Borders. The M8 links Midlothian to Glasgow and the west of Scotland, and the M90 to Perth and the north. Edinburgh can be reached in 20 minutes by train,
regular bus services connect the area with the rest of The Lothians and Edinburgh and Glasgow airports are a twenty minute and one hour drive away respectively.
Midlothian is home to Midlothian Science Zone, a centre of excellence on the outskirts of Edinburgh with the largest concentration of animal- science related expertise in Europe. The zone fosters a One Health community, increasing levels of collaboration between academia and business while raising the profile of world-leading research and access to state-of-the-art facilities.
Midlothian Council’s Planning, Sustainable Growth and Investment
Service is dedicated to the growth and development of Midlothian’s economy and the businesses that choose to make Midlothian their home. The Service supports businesses and investors find suitable development sites and also provides tailored business support, working with a range of partners enabling access to Scotland’s wider business support eco-system.
The Midlothian Council Commercial Property team are involved in the acquisition, sale and letting of a wide range of commercial properties including office, industrial and warehouse premises, retail space, land and both investment and development opportunities. The Locate in Midlothian website advertises land and property as they come to market throughout the year.
Midlothian is advancing its leisure and tourism facilities, with significant investment in Destination Hillend Snowsports Centre, recently opening Scotland’s only and the UK’s longest Alpine Coaster attracting a significant increase in visitor numbers to the year round destination.
