The Past
Opal Access is a company that offers access services in the UK and Europe. The company was founded on February 17th, 2015 by CEO Lee Armstrong. In 2017, Kenny Macleod joined as the Director of Operations. The original dream was to create a rope access company that put clients first, with high integrity and a focus on providing the highest quality service without compromise. The company aimed to be at the forefront of technological developments in the fledgling industry, performing projects with passion, honesty, and care for their clients. Trust is earned, not given, and both Lee and Kenny take this to heart every day in their work with others.
Initially, Opal Access Limited provided general maintenance rope access services, such as window cleaning, facade inspections, and concrete repairs. However, in 2020, the company expanded to provide machine-based access services. Opening the MEWP/Crane department unlocked many new project opportunities that could not be carried out with abseiling alone. This department also allowed
the company to combine rope access and machine work, improving efficiency and reducing costs.
Opal Access opened Glasgow and London offices in 2020 to enable fast deployment across the UK. In 2021, Stefano Castelvecchi joined the core team as the new business manager.
Our business reinvested in two apprenticeships in 2022 to develop careers, recruit, train and retain future talent.
The present
In 2023, we achieved our biggest milestone yet by moving into our new warehouse and office space, which was custom-designed for in- house rope access training. At Opal Access, we are always striving for excellence and exploring alternative methods of access to improve project efficiency.
Our new space also serves as a rescue training centre, allowing us to ensure the safety of our technicians in all environments. We are heavily investing in our custom workflow and CRM systems to further improve our already rapid response times. As a result of this investment, we can provide an onsite project evaluation, quotation, full work scopes and RAMS within 2 days of initial contact, depending on the scale of the work. This significantly reduces administration times and ultimately lowers our clients’ costs.
Our system runs live and is connected at all times to our Opal Access office servers, which allows us to provide our clients with accurate and up-to-date progress reports. Our operations team is proactive in identifying and resolving issues immediately, without causing any delay in the projected timeline. Even in rural areas with little to no mobile signal, our system still works perfectly because we recently acquired two Starlink mobile dishes. No matter where we work, our technicians and operations team are always connected, and information flow is never disrupted.
The future Our company will continue to invest and develop, just as we set out to do back in 2015. While we understand that perfection is unattainable, we strive to achieve it as it helps us stay at the forefront of our industry.
At the moment, we are working on developing our Railway and NDT departments, alongside the Opal Training Academy, aiming to establish all three by the end of 2024. Furthermore, we plan to start our renewables department in 2024/2025.
