The North East

Darlington Science Park benefits from excellent transport connectivity via rail, road and air links, along with close proximity to Darlington town centre. It has a unique position in the Tees Valley, being immediately adjacent to the east coast main railway line (connecting London at a journey time of just 2hrs 20 minutes). A £125m project led by a partnership of Tees Valley Combined Authority, Darlington Borough Council and Network Rail is currently underway to transform the capacity and quality of the rail station and its environs.

This work will overhaul Darlington

Station, and also includes a new multi-storey car park integrated within the bigger entrance area that is the station’s gateway to the town. Two new platforms will also be added to improve rail connections both within the Tees Valley and beyond via the East Coast Main Line.

Elsewhere on the park, new business incubation and growth space has been developed at Business Central and Innovation Central – just minutes from one another on the park – providing a choice of carefully designed coworking, office and lab space, all joined together by the support services today’s entrepreneurs need to innovate and thrive. Business Central has supported 200 businesses to start up and grow since opening in 2015 and the newly opened Innovation Central now offers further choice on the park. Both centres are run by the North East BIC on behalf of Darlington Borough Council.

Beyond Darlington Science Park, there are development

opportunities close by for larger scale facilities, particularly suited to logistics or manufacturing requirements. Both Symmetry Park and Ingenium Parc offer prominent locations on the eastern side of the town, providing significant scope of opportunities for larger development needs, with excellent transport links via the regional motorway networks.

Ingenium Parc is a major new location for industrial development in Darlington.

With road connections to the North and South via the A1(M) and from East to West via the A66, as well as fast connections from London to Edinburgh via the East coast main railway line, Ingenium Parc is ideally placed as a location for a variety of business types including warehousing, logistics and advanced manufacturing. Ingenium Parc is a greenfield site, and is ideally located within the town to serve the needs of business and be accessible to a skilled workforce from the town and the wider sub-region.

The nearby Symmetry Park, home to the Amazon site, and neighbouring, newly-marketed

24-acre industrial park, Fabric, are exciting new

developments with easy access to the A66, while Faverdale Industrial Estate, next to the A1 motorway, is also seeing growth and investment with developers hungry for opportunity.

The arrival of the Government’s economic campus is undoubtedly a major boost for the town. More than 1,200 civil servants are expected to be based in the heart of the town centre, in a hub now officially named the Darlington Economic Campus.

In total eight Government departments are now based in Darlington and offer not just a chance for local people to secure quality jobs, but also for businesses across the professional services sector locally to benefit. Already, the town has seen investment interest from firms in accounting, financial services, legal and education looking to move to Darlington for the first time, or expand their existing operation in the town, in order
