GILLETTE VENUS Gillette’s Venus has unveiled a photography series, fronted by England Lioness and Arsenal WFC player Lotte Wubben-Moy and World Champion Football Freestyler Lia Lewis, aimed at tackling ‘skin consciousness’ in sport. The female razor brand’s #MoveYourSkin campaign was inspired by the statistic that more than a third of women do not participate in sport because they worry about the way their skin looks. In July, the England women’s squad beat eight- time champions Germany at the UK’s Wembley stadium to secure their first major tournament win at the Women’s EURO 2022.
EVONIK Evonik has divested its US betaine business as part of a wider portfolio transformation. The personal care ingredients giant will sell its betaine business based in Hopewell, Virginia, to specialty chemicals company Kensing. Staff and part of the site are included in the deal. The divestment is described as part of the transformation of Evonik’s Care Solutions business into a system solutions provider for personal care and cleaning.
EDGEWELL Edgewell has voluntarily recalled three batches of Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 from shelves in the US. While not an ingredient in any Banana Boat products, unexpected levels of benzene in the batches were attributed to the propellant that sprays the aerosol sunscreen out of the can. Benzene is a human carcinogen. The recalls affect 6oz batches of Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 of lot codes 20016AF (expiration December 2022); 20084BF (expiration February 2023); and 21139AF (expiration April 2024).

Amorepacific & MIT develop first chip-less & wireless electronic skin

Amorepacific has developed the world’s first chip-less and wireless wearable electronic skin. The ‘e-skin’, created in collaboration with remote epitaxy specialist Professor Kim Jeehwan at MIT, is sweat proof and can continuously monitor skin changes over long periods of time.
According to Amorepacific, the ultra-thin patches are the first to support skin monitoring and data transmission without

BASF TAPS RED SEAWEED WITH NEW INVESTMENT
GERMANY/INDIA German ingredients giant BASF’s corporate venture company, BASF Venture Capital, and Dutch investment fund Aqua-Spark are investing in Sea6 Energy as part of a Series B round. The Bangalore, India- located company is a leader in the production and processing of tropical red seaweed and boasts Tata Capital Innovations Fund among its existing investors. Including BASF and Aqua-Spark’s investment, Sea6 Energy’s Series B transaction will complete at INR1,402m (US$18.5m). Red seaweed biomass is fast-growing and can be used
as a gelling ingredient in the cosmetics industry, as well as in food. Commercial offshore cultivation on large scale is complex, but Sea6 Energy has adapted its technology to extreme weather conditions. It has also developed a proprietary process that increases the shelf life of red seaweed from one to two days to up to 60 days.

US Make-up brush innovator Japonesque, together with private equity firm Topspin Consumer Partners, has acquired Barefoot Scientist. A foot care brand established in 2019 by Dana Ward, Barefoot Scientist offers premium foot care aiming to treat feet in the same specialised way that consumers treat their faces, hair and bodies. Its line-up includes Barefoot Scientist’s initial launch and hero product PreHeels+ blister prevention spray. Topspin Consumer Partners invested in Japonesque in September 2019 and has since worked to expand the business organically and via acquisitions.
